Home > Learning Center > Wireless Weather Station
A wireless weather station incorporates more than just standard temperature readings. Do you want to know the barometric pressure? The wind speed and direction? The humidity level? If you do, no simple thermometer will do the trick for you. Sure, it can give you a temperature, but it won’t tell you how hot or cold it feels out.
Wind chill and the humidity factor are two of the top reasons to have a wireless weather station. They act in opposite ways on the actual temperature. Moving are creates the illusion that it is cooler by circulating the air past any given point. In the summer, a cool breeze is a welcome relief from the summer heat. In the winter, a cold wind lowers the already frigid temperature even further.
The opposite of wind chill is humidity factor. The higher the relative humidity of the air at a given temperature is, the more our bodies feel the heat. This is because we rely on the evaporation rate of water to keep our bodies cool in the heat. If the air is already saturated with water, it lowers the rate at which our sweat will evaporate, increasing the heat we feel. A wireless weather station can accommodate both wind chill and relative humidity to give you an accurate answer to the question: “how hot or cold will it feel outside?”
