Six of the Best Weather Stations
By Peter Jenkinson, PA Features
KEEPING AN EYE ON THE WEATHER
The British climate is, to say the least “changeable“.
Could this be the reason that we are probably one of the most weather
obsessed nations on the planet.
Bulletins used to be just after the news, which always seemed to
be more than enough information when coupled with a report of the
impending cold spell on the back of your daily newspaper –
but no longer.
You could, if required, spend 24 hours a day watching forecasts,
and if you’ve had your fill of the conditions at home there
are plenty of satellite channels that allow you to check out conditions
across the globe.
Of course, all of this information comes to us via a very sophisticated
collection of technology, which, has now been shrunken into appliances
for the home. So you can now give your family a forecast while they
eat breakfast.
Here’s a selection of what is out there:
Updated Classic – Hi Sensitive I – £75
from www.ukweathershop.co.uk
This attractive and modern design in cherry wood frame consists
of a barometer and thermometer, helping you decide to wear a warm
coat and if its time to get the washing in or not.
Talking Temperature – Landscape Weather Station –
£109 from www.argos.co.uk
Place the sensor unit up to 70 metres away from the base station
to read the conditions and it will report back to this attractive
base-station on what’s going on outside.
Featuring animated icons, scrolling weather messages and even a
talking function for information, you’ll never need to look
out of the window again.
Picture Proof – Meteo Vision £149.99 from www.oregonscientific.co.uk
Even if it’s grey outside, the weather forecast will be delivered
to you in glorious hues on this, the world’s first colour
weather station.
No presenters, no adverts, just weather – the opposite end
of the scale from a traditional barometer.
Snooze or Sprint? – Oregon BAR626 Easy Weather Station
£29.99 from www.oregonscientific.co.uk
This wireless weather station has a built-in alarm clock and calendar
function, so at a glance you can decide if it’s wise to duck
back under the duvet or get out and about.
The easy to read animated weather icons mean it can be read with
one eye barely open.
Portable Advisor – Skywatch Xplorer 4 £62.95
from www.skyview.co.uk
Perfect for all manner of outdoor pursuits is this mini-marvel which
reads windspeed, windchill, temperature, altitude and pressure and

From serious hikers to gentle golfers, this is a great gadget to
have.
Weather Watch – Wall projector clock £37.95

For the less serious weather watcher how about this fantastic clock
which projects the time onto your ceiling. It might only measure
inside temperature, but that’s important to know, isn’t
it?
Choose a Ferrari engine as your alarm clock alert, a five language
information display – a great gift for the gadget lover.
