The outdoor thermometer is often one that has to deal with the greatest extremes short of specialized thermometers designed for extreme experimental environments. The greatest test in this regard is if it functions as a weather station in an extreme environment. Take for instance a weather station in Antarctica. There are few artificial environments that are more punishing than this. The bottom line is that by definition an outdoor thermometer must be designed to be sturdier than most other thermometers in terms of design, weather resistant, tolerant of extreme variations of temperatures.
The wireless aspect adds an additional dimension of flexibility, and efficiency. With a wireless set situation a thermometer is much more mobile. In addition, one can read the temperature more readily. This combination is the best of all worlds for adaptability to almost any outdoor situation. Some of the best of these devices have other dimensions to them. For instance many have humidity monitors. The impact of the weather on our outdoor experience is always significantly affected by the level of humidity.High humidity tends to exaggerate the impact of temperature extremes. Low humidity with high heat is much more tolerable for most people for instance than a high humidity environment.
There are also devices with barometric readings which gives a person a sense of what weather is on the way. This is often an important factor for planning outdoor activity. An additional plus for many outdoor wireless thermometers is that they also display indoor temperatures.
